Gary Neville makes a huge claim about Liverpool’s title chances

Anfield

Gary Neville has revealed that Liverpool would have already won the Premier League this season had they sorted out their defensive problems. The Reds defensive woes once again haunted them as they drew 3-3 with Arsenal on Friday night.

“I don’t need to speak about the Liverpool goalkeeper anymore,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“I think he’s a half-decent goalkeeper but I genuinely do believe that over the last few years if Liverpool had two decent centre-backs and a good goalkeeper, over the last five years, they would have won the league.

“You can not make mistakes like that. Everyone makes mistakes but how many times have we been talking about this now? Three years?

“I’ve got nothing else to say on the matter and I know I’m paid as a pundit to come on and talk about it.”

Jurgen Klopp’s men looked to be headed for a comfortable win after goals from Philippe Coutinho and Mohamed Salah gave them a 2-0 lead going into half-time.

As a result of poor defending, the Gunners made a comeback and went on to lead the game 3-2 before Roberto Firmino managed to rescue a point for Liverpool with a late strike.

Reds goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has especially come under intense criticism for his failure to keep out Granit Xhaka’s strike from long-range.
