Ian Wright has suggested that Liverpool should consider signing Virgil van Dijk and Toby Alderweireld during the January transfer window.
Liverpool’s attack has so far been in impressive form this season with Philippe Coutinho, Sadio Mane Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah all impressive for the largest part.
The same however cannot be said of their defence which has proven to be shaky. If the Reds do wish to win major silverware in the future, then signing top quality defenders is something that they will need to do.
The Reds are bound to be linked with players over the coming weeks and Wright believes that they should consider signing Alderweireld and Van Dijk to bolster their defense.
He said: “It would be a shame for Coutinho to miss out on going to Barcelona. That’s why players will understand why he was under pressure to force a move.
“If he doesn’t get to go there, Liverpool have to do something [in January]. Liverpool have to be going big for Van Dijk and Alderweireld. That’s the kind of thing that will make Coutinho go, ‘OK, I get it now’.”
