Everton boss Allardyce reportedly wants to sign English defender available for £20million

According to a report published by the Sun, Everton manager Sam Allardyce wants to sign Crystal Palace defender James Tomkins to bolster his side during the January transfer window.

The 63-year old has previously worked with Tomkins while he was managing Crystal Palace earlier on during the year as well as during his time with West Ham.

Everton have struggled defensively this season with the likes of Ramiro Funes Mori, Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines all being hampered by injury.

The 28-year-old Tomkins has helped the Eagles to bounce back from a terrible start in the League this season and helped the club to claim vital wins against Stoke City, Watford and Leicester City.

With Everton now in the top half of the table and Allardyce managing the club, Goodisan Park could prove to be an attractive destination for Tomkins.

He is expected to have a value in the region of £20 million.
