Rangers reportedly looking to beat Celtic to signature of player Rodgers admires

As per The Scottish Sun, Rangers have joined Celtic in the pursuit of Dundee centre-back Jack Hendry ahead of the winter transfer window.

The Gers are hoping to bolster their squad with the right additions in order to finish as league runners-up, and the 22-year old, also being monitored by English trio Southampton, Newcastle United and Crystal Palace, is atop their recruitment list.

The Hoops are also keen on Hendry who caught the eyes of boss Brendan Rodgers when both sides met weeks ago.

The Northern Irishman was full of praises for the youngster, claiming: “The boy Hendry at the back I thought was excellent. He’s quick and strong and is a good size.

“Scotland need centre halves and that looks like a good kid. He’s tall, he can run and he can pass. He looks a talent.”

While Hendry is far from the finished article, his excellent displays at the back for the Dens Park outfit hint at a player with lots of potential.

His re-sale value should also benefit any of the Old Firm duo that lands him, given that he is bound to attract more EPL suitors if he keeps developing.

Rangers are looking to challenge Aberdeen to the 2nd place spot, and interim manager Graeme Murty knows his current squad are lagging behind in terms of top quality.

In a talent like Hendry, the Ibrox club can get things right at the back and add some level of consistency to their game.
