Everton reportedly eyeing swoop for defender from strugglers

According to reports, Everton could be set to swoop for Crystal Palace defender Patrick Van Aanholt during the January transfer window in order to boost their defence.

The Toffees were poor defensively during the early parts of the season and have so far conceded 29 goals in the Premier League.

The only clubs who have conceded more are West Ham and Stoke City.  Sam Allardyce’s team have problems as Ramiro Funes Mori, Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman are all unavailable through injury.

With Baines unavailable, Allardyce has been forced to utilize Cuco Martina, who is a natural right-back as a left-back, and he is keen to bring in a specialist during the January transfer window.

Allardyce is a big fan of Van Aanholt and previously worked with him at Sunderland as well as Crystal Palace. Van Aanholt has made just nine appearances this season with Roy Hodgson being reluctant to play him.
