Michael Owen has urged Liverpool to sign Virgil Van Dijk to complement Naby Keita at the club.
The Dutch international Van Dikk was a priority target of the Reds during the summer transfer window.
However Southampton refused to part ways with their prized asset and negotiations were complicated by the fact that Liverpool were forced to issue an apology to the Saints after being found guilty of having tapped up the player.
The Reds defence has been subjected to criticism this season especially after they conceded 19 goals after their opening 15 games.
Now, Owen believes that the Reds could have a formidable side with Van Dijk in the centre of defence and Keita in midfield.
“I agree [Liverpool FC should sign Van Dijk]. Van Dijk is a proper player. If they can get him and Keita in midfield, things are looking up,” Owen told BT Sport.
