Everton defender Ashley Williams has dismissed concerns about his age.
After spending heavily during the summer, the Toffees have been largely disappointing so far this season in terms of their performances and Williams is one of the players who has come under intense scrutiny for his performances with his age being brought into question.
The defence has proven to be leaky and many fans feel that it may be time for the club to recruit younger defenders.
At 33, Williams is perhaps past his peak and nearing the end of his career. However he feels that his age cannot be used as an excuse for why his club have struggled this season.
“I think it’s fine if you have a back four of 30-plus,” said Williams. “In my opinion anyway, someone else’s might be different but it’s probably because I’m 33!
“I don’t think it’s a big deal. It is if you aren’t winning games like we weren’t but if we had been I don’t think it would have been mentioned.”
