Rangers put in yet another impressive performance at the weekend over Aberdeen, snatching a 2-1 win despite playing with a man less for the majority of the game.
The Ibrox side had earlier strolled to a 3-nil victory over the Dons during the week, and did prove it wasn’t a fluke with the last result.
Young centre-back Ross McCrorie played both games out of position in defensive midfield, and his standout performances attracted praises from former Celtic man Kris Commons.
Commons reckons the 19-year-old made Rangers look much better due to the great shift he put in the role.
The Celtic legend even went as far as comparing McCrorie with Hoops skipper Scott Brown, writing thus in his The Scottish Daily Mail column: “There were plenty of positives for Rangers after their win with ten men to go into second place on goal difference.
“They look a different unit with Ross McCrorie in that holding midfield role.
“He’ s athletic, strong, and good in the tackle. He likes being involved in the naughty side of the game.
“He reminds me of Scott Brown because he’s got that nasty bit to his game but he’s got good composure. He’s 19 but plays that position like a 25-year-old.
“So, there is talent for the next Rangers manager to work with.”
Since replacing Bruno Alves in the League Cup win against Partick Thistle in September, McCrorie has been in fine form, impressing in the Old Firm loss to Celtic few days later and firmly establishing himself in the first team.
Barely 2 months after his debut, the teenager is proving his versatility and playing beyond his years.
The future is definitely bright for the Academy product, and it has come as no surprise that a new deal is being discussed.
