Carragher says Everton fans will build a statue for Allardyce if he achieves this

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has suggested that Everton could build a statue of their new manager Sam Allardyce should they prevail over the Reds in the Merseyside derby this weekend.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will be the favourites for the game as they have been in better form this season and are currently on a six game unbeaten run.

Their recent form has also seen them overtake the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal and break into the top four. Though the Toffees have been largely poor this season, they have been resurgent recently and won their last two League games.

Carragher said ahead of the clash: “To get six points after what happened at Southampton is massive. There will be a feelgood factor about them at Anfield.

“Everton have gone to Anfield before with belief but it seems to disappear in the build-up to the derby and they are never the same.

“The early win is massive for Sam Allardyce. When that final whistle goes and you’ve won, you’re happy no matter who the manager is and who is playing.

“The most important thing is getting results. Everton fans will get behind him and if they win at Anfield then Allardyce will be a hero. There’ll be a statue – a big one!”
