Liverpool reportedly prepared to pay £53.5million release clause to sign attacker

Liverpool are ready to pay the £53.5million release clause for Sporting Lisbon winger Gelson Martins in the January transfer window, according to reports from the Daily Mirror.

Liverpool have made some smart acquisitions in wide positions over the past few years, with both Sadio Mane and Mo Salah proving to be huge hits after moving to Anfield.

Following the success with the aforementioned names, it looks like the Reds are now going to make another smart acquisition in the position in the form of promising winger Gelson Martins from Sporting Lisbon – according to reports from the Daily Mirror.

Martins has been impressing for the Portuguese outfit in recent years and at 22, the attacker already looks like a finished article as evidenced by his mature style of play.

Now reports have stated that Liverpool are ready to match is release clause of around £53.5 million to sign Martins and it will be interesting to see if the Reds pull off the transfer.

That said, it might be a bit extravagant for Liverpool to spend as much as £53.5 million for Martins as the Reds are already well endowed in the wide positions due to the presence of Mane and Salah.
