Boost as wantaway Liverpool star claims he could still change his mind

Liverpool midfielder Emre Can can enter talks with other clubs in a month’s time as he has less than 6 months on his current deal.

The Germany international has rebuffed all attempts to extend his stay at Merseyside beyond the end of the campaign, with a move to Juventus on the cards.

A major stumbling block in contract renewal talks has been Can’s release clause, but the 23-year-old midfielder has revealed the standoff has never been about money.

While plenty playing minutes have been afforded the former Bayern Munich man this term, the situation could change next season with RB Leipzig’s Nabil Keita set to arrive following his signing in the summer.

Although Can has refused to say what the real issue is, he hasn’t ruled out putting pen to paper for a new deal.

Liverpool will lose him for nothing come summer if he’s not sold in January, and the club are somewhat in a dilemma as regards what to do.

Reacting when asked if he would still be at Anfield next season, Can replied: “Why do you ask me this? Really, I concentrate on this season and let my agent handle all the rest.

“It is not about money, that’s all I can say.

“Yes I could (sign a pre-contract with another club next month), but tomorrow I could also sign for Liverpool. We’ll see.”

A new contract will definitely be a transfer boost for Liverpool as retaining the services of a solid midfielder like the German is almost akin to signing a new player.
