Paul Merson predicts the result of the clash between Liverpool and Chelsea

Football pundit Paul Merson has predicted that the game between Chelsea and Liverpool on Saturday will end in a draw.

The Reds enter the game in fifth position having picked up 22 points from their 12 games played thus far. Chelsea meanwhile, are in third place and three points ahead of the Reds who endured a frustrating 3-3 draw against Sevilla in the Champions League this week.

Merson feels that Chelsea do have an advantage in terms of defence and midfield, and also because the Blues have the added X-Factor of boasting Cesc Fabregas in their squad.

Nonetheless, Merson predicted that there will not be much between the two sides on Saturday by saying, “I was sitting down with Ian Wright the other day, watching the Sevilla v Liverpool game before The Debate, and I said at half-time it would be 3-3,” Merson told Sky Sports, after predicting a 1-1 draw on Merseyside.

“He said: ‘No chance!’ I said: ‘Wrighty, they play the same way at 3-0 up and 3-0 down!’ They’re still all bombing forward at 3-0, they can’t defend, and Sevilla had good chances in the first half. If both teams play to the best of their ability, Chelsea will win.

“They have better players: better defenders, and there’s not much in it attacking-wise. And Liverpool don’t have a Cesc Fabregas to properly hurt you. I have an inkling this will be a draw at Anfield, however, and that does neither side any favours.”
