Defender hands Celtic a major fitness boost

Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko is reportedly nearing a return to action following a three month layoff.

The Denmark international suffered a knee ligament injury in August and has now set is sight on playing for his club during their final two Champions League fixtures.

The injury of Sviatchenko has overlapped with that of Celtic defenders Jozo Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata.

Despite this, the Hoops have managed to extend their unbeaten run domestically to 63 games and are on course to book a place in the last 32 of the Europa League.

Whilst speaking about his situation, Sviatchenko said: “The international break was convenient because it let me get good sessions and then a bit of rest and keep on looking to the next game. I played all six games last season in the Champions League which was an amazing experience.

“We have put ourselves in a good position but the job isn’t done yet and the final two group games are going to be decisive. I really hope I can play a part in them.”
