Arsenal legend reckons Newcastle man is headed for this Merseyside club next

enitezEverton sacked Ronald Koeman last month, and are still in search of a perfect successor to the Dutch tactician.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is being linked with the job given his managerial pedigree.

However, Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes the Spaniard is certain to take charge of Liverpool once he leaves the Saint James’ Park, ruling out his chances of managing the blue half of Merseyside.

Merson recently claimed on Sky Sports: “Liverpool will be Rafa’s next job, not Everton.”

Given his affiliation with the Reds, a side he led to Champions League and F.A Cup victories in his first season at Anfield, it’s almost completely impossible to see Benitez agree to manage Everton.

With takeover talks underway at Tyneside, the former Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Napoli boss looks bound to remain with the Magpies for a little longer.

Nevertheless, a return to Liverpool could be on the cards, and should Jurgen Klopp continue to struggle to deliver the goods, Benitez will be amongst the managerial candidates at the club once the German departs.
