David Ginola has revealed his pain for Newcastle United

David Ginola has revealed that the pain of missing out on the Premier League title with Newcastle United during the 1995/6 season is something that remains with him.

During an interview with the National, the Frenchman revealed that the biggest regret of his career was not being able to deliver the Premier League title to the fans of the Magpies.

Ginola is regarded as a legend at Newcastle and has good memories of the club even though he did not manage to succeed in helping them win the Premier League.

The Magpies were a major force in English football under Kevin Keegan during the 1990’s but are now a shadow of the team that they once were.

Ginola said: “We thought that nothing could stop us,” he told the National. “We were scoring goals for fun. We did concede some silly goals, but always managed to score one more goal than opponents.

“We didn’t have injuries or suspensions. It was looking really good until Man United came to St James Park in March.

“Eric scored. It was a killer. It was such a tight game and we knew that whoever scored one goal would probably get all three points. It was such a frustration to play so well for an entire season and win no trophies at all.

“That was my biggest frustration, that we couldn’t give a trophy to those wonderful fans who’ve been supporting their team for years. I’ve met so many over the years and I never lost in my mind how important those fans were.”
