Newcastle’s lack of finishing in the final third has seen them win just one of their last 6 league games, and getting a lethal striker by January is pertinent.
The Magpies have managed to score just 10 goals in 11 games, and are looking to return for summer target and Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun.
However, recent comments by the Turkish giants’ president Fikret Orman and his new asking price would make it near impossible for Newcastle to get hands on their man.
Orman told Sky Sports of the chances of having the 26-year-old, also a target of Everton, Crystal Palace and Tottenham, leave in January thus: “It’s difficult mid-season to think about selling Tosun to the Premier League.
“It would need incredible numbers for us, £20m is not enough, I don’t need to sell now. I can wait until the end of the season.”
Tosun has bagged 34 goals for Besiktas in his last 62 games across all competitions, with 10 coming in 15 appearances this term.
Newcastle surely need such level of expertise in front of goal, but it remains to be seen if they can meet his asking price and also successfully convince him into agreeing to a switch.
Rafa Benitez’s side are better off identifying other striking targets ahead of January, as their chances of getting Tosun appear slimmer than before.
