Watford star says his side ‘blew it’ against Everton

Watford midfielder Will Hughes believes that his team blew it during their dramatic 3-2 defeat at the hands of Everton during the weekend.

The Hornets looked to be cruising to victory as they led the game 2-0 through goals from Richarlison and Christian Kabasele.

Everton however showed determination to draw equal and eventually win through goals from OumarNiasse, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Leighton Baines.

The Hornets did have a last minute opportunity to draw level, but unfortunately for them Tom Cleverley missed from the spot.

The result takes the Toffees out of the relegation zone and into 15th place on the standings with 11 points from 11 games.

A frustrated Hughes said after the game: “There is massive frustration from our part. They didn’t have to do anything special to get back in the game and it was an error on our part. That happens in games and it gave them a lot of momentum.

“From then on at 2-1 with the crowd behind them it is game on and they got the equaliser and it is game on.”We have to look at ourselves for the result, considering how comfortable we were going 2-0 up.

“You can hold your hands up if they score a 30 yarder or someone does something special, but it was one ball over the top and we failed to deal with it. We know that and everyone knows 2-0 is a tricky scoreline, especially away from home. As soon as they got that goal it makes it difficult and we only have ourselves to blame.”
