Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has revealed that Jack Colback will not be making a return to the clubs first team fold.
After failing to secure a move away from the club during the summer, Colback has been training with the Magpies developmental squad.
The Toons are set to be without MikelMerrino for two weeks through injury and despite this, Colback will not be called up to the first team as cover.
Speaking about the situation, Benitez said: “He’s training with the Under-23s. He knows the situation. We’re working with the players available now. He knew our idea from the beginning.
“We have four or five midfielders. We didn’t want to have six. I don’t want too many players in the same position.”
Meanwhile the Magpies have so far exceeded expectations in the Premier League and if they continue to play the way that they are playing currently, then they should manage to achieve their aim of surviving in the Premier League this season.
