Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has revealed that he has received death threats and branded them “disgusting”.
The Reds have come under intense criticism for their defending this season and Lovren has been one of the players that has been particularly singled out for criticism particularly for his performance during Spurs 4-1 defeat against Liverpool in which he was responsible for letting in the first two goals.
The Croatian international posted a message on instagram stating that he had received a message which read: “I’m gonna murder ur family u Croatian prick.”
The 28 year old Lovren responded to the message by stating, “Horrible what kind of people we have. I don’t mind when people talk s**t about me, it says more about them! But I cannot ignore when my family is threatened. I just can’t and won’t accept that. Disgusting.”
This incident proves that there are still some fans who take things a bit too far. Football is just a game and not a matter of life or death.
