“A poor game” – Newcastle legend reacts to Burnley loss and advises players

A 1-nil defeat at the hands of Burnley at Turf Moor on Monday night saw Newcastle fell to their 4th loss of the Premier League campaign.

It’s their 3rd narrow defeat having suffered similar 1-nil losses to Brighton and Huddersfield, and the Magpies will have to learn how to prevent such from happening in order to avoid dropping useful single points.

While the hosts weren’t any better than Newcastle at both ends, Rafa Benitez’s men did little to deserve victory, and not even the legendary Alan Shearer could complain about a result that earlier appeared bound to end in a bore draw.

The highest goalscorer of all time in the Premier League took to Twitter following the game to post: “I bet the players can’t wait to watch that game back and analyse it!

“Can’t complain with the result.

“A poor game. #BURNEW”

Benitez has since agreed that a single mistake cost them the game, as Ayoze Perez lost possession at the edge of his box in the seconds leading to the goal.

None of the players performed to the required level, and it can only be hoped they put in a much-improved display when Bournemouth visit before travelling to Old Trafford after the international break.
