Football pundit Tony Cascarino has said that Everton need to focus on their defensive issues and possibly buy new defenders in January.
Following Everton’s disappointing defeat against Leicester, Cascarino said: “Before they can turn their form around, Everton need to sort their central defenders.
“Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams cannot work as a pairing —they are both experienced but also at the end of their careers and susceptible to pace and one-on-one situations. Playing against the pace of Jamie Vardy and Demarai Gray was the toughest test they could have had.
“Michael Keane, who was out injured, is a young talent but also looks to struggle against pace. These days you need some speed at the back. Keane needs a new partner because until Everton sort their defence, they will struggle.”
The Toffees are struggling in the Premier League and are in 18th position after taking eight points from their opening ten games.
They will need to rectify things as soon as possible or else they could face a relegation battle this season. The Merseyside club have been criticized for their failure to replace Romelu Lukaku with an experienced striker.
In addition to this, the veteran duo of Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams have also been criticized for their declining form as they approach the end of their careers.
