Newcastle have been in superb form this season against all odds, losing just once in their last 7 games ahead of Monday’s clash against Burnley at Turf Moor.
The Magpies currently sit on 8th on the log with the game in hand having picked up 14 points, and manager Rafa Benitez believes a high dose of confidence, akin to the one Leicester City had at the start of their title-winning campaign, is responsible for his side’s impressive run.
The Spaniard commented thus ahead of the clash against Sean Dyche’s men: “It’s really important to start well because you play with more confidence so you never know.
“You see Leicester won the title when they started with confidence and you couldn’t stop them by the end. I think it’s a very good thing for us. We’ll now try to keep the momentum.”
A victory on Monday night will see Newcastle leapfrog to 6th position on the log, ahead of Liverpool and while there is growing belief they could end up in the top half of the table by May, they could actually prove to be the dark horses of the campaign by ending up in the Europa League places.
Having spent little in transfers during the summer, Benitez will hope the new owners by January can release needed funds to buy players in the winter.
While they remain far from title contenders, Newcastle could prove their worth and take a shot at the top prize in the coming campaigns once the squad is fully equipped with better players.
They could just be the next Leicester City in town if the stars align for them.
