Liverpool boss Klopp explains why he left out Lovren from the starting lineup

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has spoken out about why Dejan Lovren was left out of his side for their 3-0 Premier League win against Huddersfield on Saturday.

Lovren endured a nightmare last weekend and was responsible for the opening two goals during his team’s 4-1 defeat against Tottenham.

The Croatia international would have been hoping to respond to doubters during the Merseyside club’s clash against the Terriers this weekend and it has since been revealed that Klopp initially planned to include him in the starting lineup for the match.  However a last minute injury before the game prevented him from making the trip.

Speaking about this issue, Klopp said: “It was the last pass. Maybe you saw it. Joel [Matip] and Dejan were exchanging passes and then in the last one, he felt something in the muscle.

“I don’t know exactly, we had no time – the only question I asked in the treatment room was, ‘Yes or no?’ and I got a no and then we changed. It is his thigh.”
