Newcastle United held talks over the signing of Premier League winner during the summer

Newcastle United held had talks with Liverpool over a possible return of James Milner to St. James Park during the summer transfer window, according to The Independent.

James Milner played for Newcastle from 2004 to 2008, during which time he scored 11 goals in 136 games – kick-starting his accent into stardom.

Following his spell at Newcastle, Milner spent time with Manchester City, winning Premier League in the process, and currently with another English giants in Liverpool.

Milner certainly has had an eventful career with the aforementioned clubs and to complete a fairy tale ending, the former England international could have returned to the place where he honed his skills had Liverpool accepted Newcastle’s approach for him during the recent summer transfer window.

Recent reports from the Independent suggest that Newcastle had made an approach for the 31-year-old earlier this season but the Magpies were rebuffed by the Reds citing the player to still be an important part of their team.

Nonetheless, Newcastle are believed to be still interested in signing Milner and it will be interesting to see if the Magpies are indeed able to land their former star.
