Henry Onyekuru has confirmed that there is a possibility of him returning to Everton during the January transfer window, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.
Onyekuru joined Everton earlier this summer for a reported £7 million from Eupen but was immediately loaned out to Anderlecht till the end of the season after the striker failed to qualify for the UK work permit.
Since moving the Anderlecht, the 20-year-old has experienced a fantastic start with the Belgian giants scoring six times in nine league appearances.
On the other hand, his parent club in Everton have been struggling to get goals – with most of their attacking players misfiring and failing to provide the expected goal threat.
As a result, the Toffees are said to be desperate to bring back Onyekuru and are reportedly looking to do everything in their disposal to bring back the young forward from his loan spell from Anderlecht early.
Now the talks over a potential return to Goodison Park has been confirmed by Onyekuru himself, who said in a recent interview, “Yes, that’s right [had a meeting in Liverpool] and I’m waiting for something. That’s all I can say.
“I hope to be able to play there in January. Everton is happy with my start to the season. But we are not in January and all my concentration is in Anderlecht.”
The Nigerian will still need to earn his work-permit to play but Everton are said to be hopeful of winning their appeal to the FA’s “exceptions panel”.
