Here is how Newcastle United duo are looking to boost squad’s morale

Last week, Newcastle stars Jamaal Lascelles and Mohamed Diame traded punches during training, with Jonjo Shelvey ending up with a broken finger while trying to make peace.

Speaking ahead of weekend’s visit to Southampton, manager Rafa Benitez revealed that both warring players have since settled their differences.

The swift decision from the duo to quickly bury the hatchet led Benitez into deciding not to mete out any disciplinary action, and there are plans by the duo to repair damaged morale within the team.

The Spanish manager claimed Diame has suggested that he and Lascelles take the squad out to lunch, in order to boost unity following their bust up.

Benitez told the press of the fracas and the midfielder’s plans: “To be fair, it was a surprise. It was part of a small training game and there was a fight. Jonjo was in the middle so he was making peace and everything was fine.

“After the incident, they apologised to each other. Maybe they will buy lunch for everyone – it was Mo’s idea to take the team out to lunch. I don’t know when or how they will do it.”

Considering he has 3 decades of managerial experience, a training ground bust up isn’t a new sight to Benitez, and he further admitted: “I have seen worse than that over the years.

“It is nothing, there are lots worse than that. Later on they were fine, and they have been training fine without anything special since.”
