Ex-Everton star Donovan provides message to USMNT following failure

Former Everton star Landon Donovan, who is regarded as one of the best American footballers in history, has spoken out after the United States failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time since 1986.

The United States needing only a draw in their final World Cup qualification game against Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday to secure a place in the 2018 World Cup, fell to a shock 2-1 defeat that left them embarrassed.

Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama are the three teams from the Concacaf region that have qualified directly for the World Cup while Honduras finished off in fourth place on the standings and will play in a two legged playoff against Australia for a place in the World Cup next year.

Donovan expressed his thoughts on the situation on social media platform Twitter and said, “We must learn from this and move forward to ensure a brighter future for soccer in the US. Thanks to the fans for always believing.”
