Former Everton star Phil Neville has controversially claimed that Ross Barkley should be in England’s strongest team but did not find a place in the side for Tottenham star Eric Dier.
Barkley has yet to play for the Toffees this season due to injury and is unlikely to play for the club again given that he rejected the chance to sign a new deal and his current contract expires at the end of the season.
Despite this Barkley is still regarded as a talented player and Neville does feel that he should feature for England in their 2018 World Cup squad.
Though England won their last two World Cup qualifiers against Lithuania and Slovenia respectively, they were less than impressive and Dier was one of the players who received criticism as he was negative in terms of possession.
Neviille believes that Barkley should be part of the World Cup squad as he is known to be a player who can take the ball forward.
