According to British newspaper The Sunday People (via Chronicle Live), Newcastle are mulling over a winter move for £2million-rated Slavia Prague defender Jakub Jugas.
Manager Rafa Benitez has tasked the club scouts with identifying at least 5 quality targets for every position ahead of the January transfer window, as he looks to further strengthen the Toons in view of a strong finish during the latter half of the campaign.
While centre-back is the least of Newcastle’s problems considering the depth available, it’s believed Jugas is seen as a top addition.
The Magpies are said to have scouted the 25-year-old thrice thus far, and are convinced he has what it takes to add steel to their rearguard.
Jugas helped FK Fastav Zlin to the Czech Republic league F.A Cup last season before securing a £500,000 move to Prague over the summer transfer.
His power, presence and tackling ability seems tailor-made for the Premier League, and Newcastle could be landing a gem and long-term signing should a move go through in January.
Luring him to the Saint James’ Park won’t be easy, though, as a couple of Bundesliga and Serie A sides are also monitoring Jugas.
