Liverpool legend Jamie Redknapp has said that his former side are paying the price for not signing a new centre back during the summer transfer window.
The Reds were strongly linked with a move for Southampton star Virgil van Dijk. They however did not sign an alternative option when it became clear that they were going to fail in their attempts to sign the Dutchman.
The Reds defense has often been singled out for their frustrating form this season. It was once gain sloppy defending which consigned them to a draw against Newcastle this weekend as Joselu took advantage from a defensive mishap to net an equalizer for the Magpies.
Redknapp said, “The problems engulfing Liverpool and Everton stem from their recruitment in the summer.
“Jurgen Klopp failed to land a centreback. It makes me laugh when I hear people say Liverpool’s frailty at the back is caused by their full backs pushing too high.”
