Football pundit Jamie Redknapp has claimed that Oumar Niasse is not the long-term solution to Everton’s strike problems despite the Senegal international having notched a brace this weekend as the Toffees defeated Bournemouth 2-0.
On Saturday, the Toffees found themselves 1-0 down after Josh King put the Cherries ahead. Out of desperation, Ronald Koeman introduced Niasse and the Senegal international made the most of the opportunity handed to him as he notched a brace to bring a win to his side.
Despite the players heroics this weekend, Redknapp does not believe that he is a long-term solution to Everton’s goal scoring woes and
, “As far as cameos go, Oumar Niasse’s double from the bench for Everton will have been Oscar-worthy in the eyes of Ronald Koeman.
“Do not underestimate how important Niasse’s match-winning turn was for Everton’s manager. Had they lost to Bournemouth, Koeman would have been under severe pressure.
“I don’t think Niasse is the long-term solution to Everton’s striking problems by any stretch — but his heroics have granted Koeman a reprieve.”
Niasse was deemed surplus to requirements by Koeman at the beginning of last season and spent the season on loan with Hull City. He however has a chance to prove Koeman wrong this season.
