Record breaker Barry speaks about most embarrassing career moment against Newcastle

West Brom midfielder Gareth Barry has revealed that the most embarrassing moment of his career occurred whilst he was playing for Aston Villa against Newcastle United.

During the 2004-05 season, Villa enjoyed a 3-0 victory over the Magpies with Barry going on to score a brace and Juan Pablo Angel also scoring.

The match will however be remembered for a fight between then Newcastle team-mates Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer.

Barry tried to unsuccessfully stop the fight and he revealed that it was the most embarrassing moment of his career. He said, “The Kieron Dyer / Lee Bowyer fight. I don’t enjoy seeing that picture. People have always got something to say on that.”

The 36-year-old Barry is currently the most experienced player in the Premier League and has turned out for the likes of Villa, Manchester City, Everton and West Brom during his career.

Despite now being in the latter years of his career, the veteran is still hungry as ever to play first team football and showed his intent to do so by leaving Everton this summer to link up with the Baggies.
