Brendan Rodgers reveals his plans for defender’s future

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he is hoping to keep Dedyrck Boyata at the club for the future.

The Belgian internationals current deal at Parkhead is set to expire at the end of this season and this revelation from the Hoops boss seemingly confirms that he will be offered a new deal in the near future.

Though Boyata has not played as yet this season, he was a key player for the Hoops last season and when he returns the clubs defense will be boosted. He will be hoping to play during his club’s match against Old Firm rivals Rangers during the weekend.

Whilst discussing Boyata’s return to the Celtic first team fold, Rodgers said, “Dedryck is certainly one I’ll be looking to keep, so that’s something we will be looking at.

“It’s nice to have him back. Since the turn of the year and the trip to Dubai he has been brilliant with me. It’s a big year for him with Belgium and the World Cup coming up. We want to build him up and help him be involved in that.

“I always like to have a centre-half with real speed. Dedryck’s been back working hard in training for a few weeks, the next step for him is to get game time.”
