Everton star Wayne Rooney has admitted that he has let his family down after he pled guilty to charges of drink-driving. The 31-year-old Rooney will now be banned from driving for two years.
The Manchester United and England national team all-time leading goal scorer apologized for the irresponsible behavior he engaged in while his wife Coleen and three children were on holiday.
Rooney was arrested on September 1 while driving a black Volkswagen Beetle, which belonged to lettings agent Laure Simpson and he was found to be three times over the legal drinking limit.
He pled guilty at the Stockport Magistrates court on Monday and has been ordered to perform 100 hours of unpaid work and £170 for court costs.
Following the verdict, the player’s solicitor Michael Rainford said, “What I would say, through me, Wayne Rooney wishes to express his genuine remorse for what was a terrible mistake, a terrible error of judgment on his part that evening.
“He realises he has not only let himself down very badly but his family. He has a wife and three young children.
Rooney is no stranger to controversy, having been involved in a number of scandals during his time with Manchester United.
