Neville surprised that Liverpool did not sign West Ham star

Joe Hart

Former Everton captain Phil Neville has revealed that he is surprised that Liverpool did not sign Joe Hart during the summer. After being deemed surplus to requirements at Manchester City, the 30-year-old Hart ended up moving to West Ham on a season long loan deal.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp appears to be uncertain about who his first choice goalkeeper will be for this season as he has rotated between Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius during the first few games of the campaign.

Karius started during the Merseyside club’s 2-2 Champions League draw with Sevilla on Wednesday but Mignolet is the Premier League custodian and neither have been too convincing so far.

Neville has now stated his belief that the England first choice shot-stopper Hart is a better goalkeeper than both and admits that he was surprised that the Reds did not attempt to sign him.

He said, “I’m surprised he didn’t go out and get Joe Hart. A real top-class, experienced goalkeeper. I think he’s (Hart) better than what they’ve got. I think he would have given them a bit of stature at the back.”
