As per German news outlet Sport 1 (via Daily Mirror), Liverpool remain keen on landing RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner despite failing to during the summer transfer window.
However, they have gotten huge competitors for the signature of the Germany international on their hands in Real Madrid.
The La Liga giants failed in their bid to land Kylian Mbappe, who left Monaco for PSG instead, and now have eyes on Werner.
The 21-year-old bagged 26 goals across all competitions last term, and helped Germany to the Confederations Cup where he walked away with the Golden Boot.
Having already agreed a £48million pre-contract that will see Werner’s club mate Naby Keita leave for Anfield next summer, it’s unimaginable to think Leipzig would let another key member of their squad go.
The Bundesliga outfit are set to rebuff both Liverpool’s and Real Madrid’s attempts, but should a move is to happen, the Spaniards hold the upper advantage due to their huge financial muscles and most recent achievements.
Liverpool wish to further strengthen their attack going forward in order to reestablish themselves and English and continental powerhouses, but with a front trio that looks untouchable, it remains to be seen if Werner would be keen to join Keita in moving to Merseyside without a promise of a starting shirt.
