Liverpool icon explains how Coutinho will be treated by his teammates and fans

Former Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp has said that Philippe Coutinho will be forgiven by his team-mates for trying to join Barcelona this summer.

The Catalan giants reportedly viewed the 25-year-old Coutinho as a replacement for Neymar and made three bids for him, all of which were rejected.

Coutinho handed in a transfer request to the Merseyside club and has not played in any of the team’s Premier League games thus far as he had been hoping for a deal to go through. He is however now expected to return to action for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Redknapp has now stated his belief that the other players from within the squad will not treat Coutinho badly upon his return despite his desire to leave.

He said, “There has been a lot of talk about his mindset after everything that went on with Barcelona in the summer, but I don’t think it’s going to be a problem for him – and I certainly don’t think it’s going to be a problem for his team-mates.

“I don’t think there’s anyone in that dressing room thinking he has let them down. He wanted to go and play for Barcelona – as anyone in their right mind would.

“As soon as fans see him turn in a great performance or score a lovely goal, they will welcome him back. Liverpool supporters are forgiving people. They will realise it was a difficult situation for everyone involved.”
