How the Newcastle United stars fared on International Duty

Most of the international players played two matches in the last week for their countries, and that has led more light on the situation in the race for the World Cup. Here is how the Newcastle stars did in their second set of matches:

Ciaran Clark

The Irish center back was part of the qualifying match at home to the Serbians in which they lost 0-1. They have now ceded control of second place to Wales as a result in that group. Clark played all 90 minutes in Dublin for his nation.

Rob Elliot

The goalkeeper once again watched on powerless as his Irish side fell to defeat at home to Serbia.

Chancel Mbemba

DR Congo drew 2-2 at home to Tunisia on Tuesday, seeing their World Cup hopes fade as a result as they are now three points back of the Tunisians.

Mbemba played his part, scoring the opening goal after nine minutes before being replaced on 59 minutes due to injury. His side would concede two goals and two points after he left the pitch.

Aleksandar Mitrovic

A part of the same game as Clark and Elliot, the Serbian striker saw his team remain on top of the table with the win. The big striker started and played 80 minutes before being taken off for tactical reasons.

Christian Atsu

Atsu played all 90 minutes of Ghana’s 1-5 romp away to Congo on Tuesday. The win eliminated the Congo and kept their faint hopes alive, although they are five points off the top with two matches left to go. Atsu recorded an assist on their third goal.
