Southampton are remaining adamant that Liverpool target Virgil van Dijk will not be sold this transfer window.
The Reds interest in signing the Dutchman has been long documented with the player reportedly also keen on the move.
Van Dijk, who only signed a new six year contract at St Mary’s last year, attempted to force through a move by handing in a transfer request to the Saints.
Despite the controversy that has taken place, Southampton player Steven David has insisted that the 26-year-old van Dijk remains popular within the club’s dressing room and will be welcomed back into the first team.
He said, “That door has never been shut. There has been a lot made of the situation outside the club that isn’t necessarily true all the time but we will welcome him back. He’s a top quality player and he’s done well for us over the last couple of seasons.”
