According to Ajax Cape Town’s official website, Celtic have completed a deal for their defender Rivaldo Coetzee, subject to a medical and a work permit, and he is expected to be officially unveiled by the Bhoys before the week runs out.
With Dedryck Boyata on the injury sideline and the immediate Celtic futures of Erik Sviatchenko and Jozo Simunovic under doubt, manager Brendan Rodgers risked playing the early parts of the new campaigns with a depleted backline.
However, in Rivaldo, 20, the North Irish boss has acquired a quality option to shore up his defence.
The South Africa international is highly rated back home having made 16 appearances for the national team since making his debut as a 17-year-old in 2014.
This came just 2 years after he made his Ajax Cape Town debut. Coetzee forged a name for himself on the international scenes, impressing for South Africa at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations and 2016 Rio Olympics.
He emerged Ajax Cape Town’s player and player’s player of the year for last season after another impressive campaign in the ABSA Premiership, and should prove to be a great signing for Celtic.
Coetzee becomes Celtic’s fourth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Olivier Ntcham, Kundai Benyu and Jonny Hayes.
