Newcastle United handed huge injury boost

Newcastle have received a boost after it has been confirmed that defender Jamie Sterry is back in training following a groin operation.

The 21-year-old Sterry could be set to return to competitive action this Friday when the Magpies under 23 team takes on West Brom.

Sterry will give manager Rafa Benitez a welcome additional option given that Florian Lejeune and Paul Dummett are set to be out of action for a number of weeks.

Sterry signed a new four year contract with the Magpies last summer and he managed four appearances for the Magpies last season in between being loaned out to Coventry City, for whom he made 16 League appearances.

The youngster will need to work hard in training this season to try and convince Benitez that he is capable of playing at the highest level. At 21, he is still young and will continue to develop as time progresses.
