Liverpool handed huge transfer boost as Barcelona reportedly fail with bid for midfield target

According to Sport, Liverpool have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of Napoli playmaker Lorenzo Insigne, as Barcelona have failed with a £55million bid to land him.

The Reds want the Italian midfielder as replacement for Philippe Coutinho should he finally leave for the Catalan giants.

Getting him, however, could be dependent on both theirs and Napoli’s Champions League play-off qualifications.

Breaking the bank and their club-record fee to land the 26-year-old, who scored 18 Serie A goals and 9 assists last term should be the least of Liverpool’s problem.

Coutinho’s transfer to Barcelona would definitely free up a lot of funds considering the Brazilian is expected to leave for nothing less than a £100million.

Landing Insigne for a fee in the region of £60million should definitely be worth it as the exciting midfielder can get them good value for their investment.

While he would very much fit into Coutinho’s shoes perfectly given their similar style of play, prising Insigne away from Napoli won’t be easy, and this is a type of deal that looks set to go into the final days of the window.
