According to the Mirror, Everton and Swansea have finally agreed a £45million fee to allow Gylfi Sigurdsson complete a much-anticipated switch to Merseyside, and the Iceland international is due to have his medicals on Wednesday morning.
Having held out for £50million as Sigurdsson’s asking price all summer, the Welsh club finally agreed to take a cut, and a contract was officially wrapped up on Tuesday night.
Toffees boss Ronald Koeman reckons the very versatile 27-year-old can help add creativity and goals to the side this term, and has made him the club’s record signing, beating Jordan’s Pickford’s £30million record earlier set in the window.
Tottenham were also interested in landing and re-signing Sigurdsson this summer following his splendid campaign in 2016-17, but Everton had long emerged as favorites in the most recent weeks.
He helped Swansea escape the drop last term, providing 9 goals and 13 assists as he featured in as many as 7 roles across the midfield and attack.
Sigurdsson is famous for his long shots, defence-splitting passes and set-pieces expertise; features that would come handy as Everton attempt to crack a top 6 finish this season.
The midfielder could make his debut on Monday when the team visit the Etihad Stadium to battle Manchester City in the 2nd round of Premier League fixtures of 2017-18.
