Stoke City star explains why Everton’s signing is a ‘match made in heaven’

Darren Fletcher believes that Wayne Rooney’s move to Everton this summer is a match made in heaven and also feels that his former Manchester United team-mate can re-establish himself as a lethal player with the Toffees.

The 31-year-old Rooney joined Everton this summer after 13 successful years with United, during which he became the clubs all-time leading goal scorer.

He began his second stint with his boyhood club in a fairytale manner after scoring the only goal of the game to secure a 1-0 win for his side against Stoke on Saturday.

Fletcher, who was also making his debut for the Potters after moving from West Brom, would have been frustrated regarding the result but he did say about friend Rooney, “I thought it was a fantastic move for him.

“He’s coming to a club he supports. Location-wise it’s not a big move for his family. He’s coming home, really.”
