Newcastle United reportedly on the verge of signing 27-year-old

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has claimed that Joselu is closing in on joining Newcastle United from Stoke City.

The Magpies started the new season on a bad note after losing 2-0 to Tottenham this weekend through goals from Dele Alli and Ben Davies.

The less than convincing display from the club’s attack proves that they are in need of more reinforcements.

Apart from first choice forward Dwight Gayle, Aleksandar Mitrovic is the club’s only other recognized striker and the Serbian is not an ideal cover option considering that he was largely disappointing last season.

It had been reported earlier on this month that Rafa Benitez’s team had a bid rejected for Joselu, who scored six goals from 24 games on loan with Deportivo La Coruna last season.

Should the Magpies end up signing the 27-year-old Joselu, they will have to pay a fee in the region of £5 million.
