Liverpool aren’t short of quality goalscorers in their forwardline, but can still do with another addition for the new season.
However, they needn’t look into the market for one, as former Burnley striker Danny Ings could prove to be a quality cover.
The 25-year-old returned to action during the weekend for the first time since sustaining damage to his right knee in a League Cup match against Tottenham last October.
Ings opened the scoring in Liverpool U23s 2-0 victory over Swansea in the opening Premier League 2 fixture of the season.
The 1-cap England international played the whole first half before being withdrawn, and is expected to return to the first-team anytime from now.
Ings has spent 21 months on the sidelines since manager Jurgen Klopp arrived, and while he’s had no chances to prove himself to the German boss, the 2013-14 Championship Player of the Year still has his backing.
Liverpool currently have Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and Dominic Solanke as striking options off the bench, and Ings would be another quality addition once fully fit.
His services will no doubt come handy in a busy campaign in which the Reds are hoping to challenge strongly on all 4 fronts.
