Everton boss Ronald Koeman has claimed that Wayne Rooney is still one of the best in his position.
The 31-year-old veteran delivered a match winning display and scored the only goal of the game to lead the Toffees to a 1-0 win over Stoke on Saturday.
Koeman said of the all time leading goal scorer for the England national team and Manchester United, following the game, “He shows that he’s still one of the best in his position.
“I think he was different class in ball possession – he was comfortable on the ball, he took right, good decisions on the ball and he scored a great goal. And you cannot ask more (than) that.”
Rooney linked up with his boyhood club this summer after becoming frustrated with a lack of first team opportunities at Manchester United.
He will receive regular playing time at Goodison Park and will hope that his performances will be enough to gain a recall to the England national team.
