According to Liverpool Echo, Northern Irish newspaper Belfast Telegraph reports that Everton have shown interest in Linfield forward Paul Smyth.
The 19-year-old bagged 8 goals in 15 NIFL Premiership appearances last term in their title-winning campaign.
The Toffees aren’t the only English side interested in Smyth, though, with fellow EPL side Newcastle and the Championship trio of Sunderland, Sheffield United and Birmingham City also closely monitoring the progress of the Northern Ireland under-21 winger.
Since breaking into the first team, Smyth has caught the eyes of many clubs in England, with his performance against Celtic in the Champions League qualifiers last month an highlight.
The talented winger has been tipped to emerge as the next best thing in Northern Irish football, and he would make a good addition to David Unsworth’s Everton under-23’s if snapped up.
League Two side Crawley Town have already failed with a £60,000 bid for Smyth, and while other suitors will table identical bigger bids, the lure of getting a chance to play in the Premier League could tempt him into agreeing a Goodison Park move.
