Pundit advises Liverpool to sign the ideal alternative for £48million-rated target

Blasie Matuidi

Should a move for RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita fall through, Liverpool should consider going for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi, according to journalist Gregg Bakowski.

It’s becoming glaringly unlikely that the Reds will be able to get the 22-year-old Bundesliga star, as they are now ready to wait till next summer, when a clause in the Guinean’s contract makes him available to leave for £48million.

To mount an even stronger challenge for the available prizes next season, Liverpool need a very energetic midfielder like Matuidi, Bakowski reckons.

The France international has been linked with an exit as he enters the final year of his contract, and with Neymar’s arrival, PSG have to balance their books by selling some of their stars.

Matuidi, currently rated £26million by the Ligue 1 giants, has in time past hinted at a Premier League move, and his style of play makes him a Liverpool-like midfielder.

A fierce and strong tackler, the 30-year-old box-to-box midfielder is a great ball interceptor, while his overall defensive contributions, passing and ability to hold on to the ball are excellent enviable features.

Without a doubt, he would make a fine addition to the Anfield midfield, but with no registered interest in him, the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United will hope to land themselves a bargain signing by snapping him up.
