According to reports, Chelsea are also in the hunt to sign Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.
Sky Sports presenter Jim White has claimed that Blues boss Antonio Conte wants van Dijk as well as Leicester City defender Danny Drinkwater as he looks to bolster his side as they will be aiming to defend the Premier League crown during the upcoming season.
Liverpool had been expected to complete the signing of van Dijk this summer though that has been complicated by the fact that the Reds were forced to apologize to the Saints for tapping up the player.
Liverpool were found to have been in negotiations with van Dijk as early as April despite Southampton having informed them to wait until the end of the season.
As a result, Manuel Pellegrino’s side may prefer to sell the Dutch international to Chelsea over Liverpool. It remains to be seen what will happen but it is likely that van Dijk will be leaving Southampton.
